Sigulda

Situated on both banks of the ancient valley of river Gauja, Sigulda is one of the most beautiful cities in Latvia. Three castles, Sigulda Bobsleigh track, Folksong Park and picturesque landscape are only few of things why it is worth to visit this city!

Sigulda

The Sigulda Luge and Bobsleigh Track is a training venue for Olympic team of Latvia, and it hosts a number of international and national scale competitions every year.

Visit Sigulda Castle, which was built in 1207 by crusaders as a “Castellum”-type fortress with a chapel. A perfect place to take memorable photos. There is also an open-air stage with 2 000 spectator seats, built in the castle courtyard.

Sigulda New Castle was built for Grand Duke Kropotkin in the 19th century and is now the seat of the regional council.

Walking-stick Park is dedicated to a symbol of Sigulda – a walking stick. For more than 100 years, locals have been making sticks for tourists and this tradition is still live today.

A great part of Sigulda area includes the Gauja National Park. It was established on 14th September, 1973 and is therefore the oldest national park in Latvia.

Gutmanis Cavern is the largest, oldest and most visited cavern in the Baltic States. A signpost with the legend of Turaida rose is found in the proximity of the cavern.

Turaida

Turaida Museum Reserve is a cultural heritage site. The 42 hectares of grounds are replete with archaeological, architectural, historical and art monuments, all of which provide an account of the events from the eleventh century onwards.

The castle of Turaida was built in 1214 under the direction of Bishop Albert. The main Tower offers the perfect opportunity to take pictures of Latvia’s uniquely beautiful wilderness.

The museum contains Dainas Hill – a garden of sculptures dedicated to Latvian folklore. It was created in the honor of Krišjānis Barons, the most distinguished collector of folk songs.

Turaida Church is one of the oldest wooden churches in Latvia, built in 1750.
